The “New Year” thing is mostly in our heads. Yeah I know about the solar system and it’s choreography. But to me, socially speaking it’s just another “reason” for a party.

That said, a moment of pause, and a renewed effort may not be out of place. I have long held that the human species is a Beta release, and needs a firmware update badly. We have unbelievable potential, yet we step in it just as often and give way to our willingness and uncanny ability to inflict immeasurable suffering upon each other. The joke is that when aliens drive by earth they lock the doors. I suspect they have received the messages we have sent into space, and sent it right to their junk folders as they shake their head about the fact that we have this beautiful planet and all that potential and pretty much have turned it into a fucking mess with no end in sight.

A good friend in the spiritual business claims “Peace is Possible”. I will agree with him as far as to say: “The chance is not zero”. 2023 saw us sliding further into the abyss, 2024 is not looking too promising.

I wish I had better news. Good luck to us all, and strap in. Cherish the moments that will bring you joy, and be ready for the next acts in this shit show. With maybe a few exceptions, If you read these words you are probably one of the lucky ones on this rock. I know I am.

The only resolution I’ve (always) had is to not make any, since I try to try every day of the year. Happy New Year, may you make it the best it can be.
